Chloe’s Story

But I had a niggling feeling something was going to happen. Maybe this was MOTHERS INTUITION? We were so excited about our baby, we had gorgeous portrait photos taken of my bump. Like most expectant mums I religiously read Pregnancy and Baby books and magazines, joined every Baby Club and Online Forum, just desperate to learn about this wonderful but daunting experience. We attended private Antenatal classes, everything to try to prepare for our new baby. At around 27 weeks – … Continue reading

George’s Story
George’s Story It was Wednesday 18th May 2011 and I had reached my 36th week of pregnancy, this was my “Rainbow Baby” after loosing Chloe in November 2009. I had yet another un-eventful, happy, healthy pregnancy. Well when I say uneventful, I mean in terms of the pregnancy, however me being me things are never “un-eventful”! After loosing Chloe I was determined to stop other parents and families going through such an ordeal, within a few months I had launched COUNT THE KICKS which by now had really picked up momentum. I was being interviewed and photographed for magazines and newspapers, attending lcountless meetings with the Royal Colleges and even the department of health, speaking at MSLC Group meetings, going to colleges and presenting to sometimes hundreds of Midwives … Continue reading

Reduced Fetal Movements and Placenta Dysfunction Paper
A new paper has been published which looks at Reduced Fetal movements and it’s association with increased risk of stillbirth and fetal growth restriction. This paper supports the work of COUNT THE KICKS and should encourage Healthcare Professionals to ensure they follow the RCOG Greentop Guidelines to ensure any woman presenting concerns with Reduced Fetal Movements are monitored closely to ensure the reduction is not an indication of Placenta Dysfunction. http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0034851 Published by Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre, School of Biomedicine, Manchester Academic Health Science Centre, University of Manchester, Manchester, United Kingdom, Department of Paediatric Histopathology, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Manchester, United Kingdom, St Mary’s Hospital, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, United Kingdom

Michelle says “ COUNT THE KICKS is an amazing new charity, working to empower mums-to-be with knowledge and confidence throughout their pregnancy. During my own pregnancy I often felt confused by all the contradiction in advice, and hearing lots of old wives tales. There’s so much to learn and being a first time mum you don’t really know what to expect. “COUNT THE KICKS encourages mums to follow their instincts and most importantly to listen to their babies by being aware of their movement and progress and to … Continue reading

Don’t Get Scared – Get Empowered!
We have heard in the news this morning about the television celebrity Amanda Holden and speculation over the problems she may have faced during the birth of her “Rainbow Baby” Hollie-Rose on Monday. We recommend any expectant Mums who are worried or concerned by reading or watching these news reports should contact her Midwife or GP to chat through these worries. Our patron Dr Bryan Beattie commented this morning: “The complications reported in the news this morning are very rare in the UK and our Mums should not worry or get upset by them. However it is important to speak to your healthcare advisor about these risks. Risks such as these should be considered and discussed when chosing your prefered birth place. If you are concerned in particualr about a Low-lying Placenta … Continue reading
